Twelve teams line up for the second BUSA RYA Match Racing Qualifier

Tomorrow (15^th February), teams from as far north as Durham and as far south as Exeter will be heading to Queen Mary Sailing Club, Staines, to try for one of the six remaining places in the BUSA RYA Match Racing Finals held at the end of March (17-18 March). 

Teams to watch include current RYA National Match Racing Champion Nick Cherry from , who is currently ranked 52nd in the ISAF World rankings.  Robbie Allam from and Jon Pinner from will also bring strong competition, with all three teams recently getting in lots of experience and practice at the JPMorgan Asset Management Winter Challenge series.

The remaining teams include, Sam Pearson (Southampton Solent), Mary Rook (Exeter 2) who finished eighth in last year’s final, Phil White (Warwick), Matt Greenfield (Bath) and Matt Pinner (Bristol).  The event has also drawn in several newcomers including Henry Boyle and Robyn Phillips ( Durham 1 and 2), James Eastbury (Plymouth) and Stephen Powell (Exeter 1).

David Atkinson, RYA Racing Services Manager and Event director for this event commented, “This looks to be an exciting event, with some very talented young match racers going up against some more seasoned university talent.  We already have a good line up for the grand final and the sailors competing this week will not only add to the competition but also increase the standard of university racing.” 

Four teams, Griogair Whyte (Glasgow), Charlotte Lawrence (Edinburgh 1), Christopher Berry (St Andrews) and Chris Noble (Strathclyde 2), have already booked their places in the final.
