We welcome anyone who has any interest in sailing, from those who have never stepped onboard a boat before, to those who have competed nationally and internationally in dinghies and yachts.

There is never a dull moment with UMSC.During term time, our 3 teams train and compete every weekend and our Development Squad sail every Wednesday afternoon. We compete against many other teams at a whole range of events including in the BUCS circuit, the world-class Wilson Trophy and our inter-varsity event, the Christie.

We welcome 21 university and alumni teams to our team racing event, the Big Lash, which we run jointly with Liverpool Uni and is held in Feb/March every year. In 2017, we ran the BUCS BUSA Team Racing Finals which was an absolutely fab event enjoyed by all the competitors, race officials and volunteers.

Our sailors also compete at the BUCS Fleet Racing Championships where last year we won a Men’s Team Prize, as well having boats finish 4th and 8th in the 66-boat Firefly Fleet.

Our beginner sessions are held on Wednesday afternoons, where you can complete your RYA Levels 1 and 2 and our yachters sail out of Liverpool Yacht Club on weekends.

During all of this, we organise socials every week, ranging from Pub Golf to Bongo’s Bingo, our own Pub Quiz to the classic Fifth Avenue, Pot Luck Supper to classic AU socials and Black-Tie Balls…

At the end of the year we run a club holiday with Summer Sail Week. If you like the sound of sunbathing and swimming off 50ft yachts in the Mediterranean, then this is the holiday for you! This summer we spent a week cruising around Corfu, and last year we went to Croatia. Keep an eye out for more information at the start of the year!

Throughout the summer, our members are off doing their own sailing related activities – instructing at a summer camps in America and Europe, competing at National Championships, achieving Day Skipper and Yachtmaster qualifications, racing at our home clubs – you can always find like-minded people here!

Directly before the autumn semester starts, we’ll be ending our summer holiday at the 24hr race in Southport – the only event of the year where you are expected to be smashed whilst sailing (in the dark!).

We hope to see many new and returning faces to the club this year. Make sure you keep updated by following our Facebook and Twitter pages – information on how you can sign up in September will appear there.
