Represent BUSA at prestigious events around the UK. Recent events entered by BUSA teams include the Wilson Trophy, the British Keelboat League and the Women’s Team Racing Championship. Apply to represent BUSA by contacting us.


This biennial competition between the USA (ICSA) and the UK (BUSA) has, since its inception in 1959, involved teams of university student sailors alternately 'touring' the two countries, alternating, every other year. Applications for current students to represent BUSA in this team and match racing event open biennially.

RYA National Match Racing Series

A series of match racing events hosted around the country (approx. half in Portland) culminates in a Granf Final in November. These include national competitions for Women, Youth, Schools and Students. Open qualifiers and a series of winter events designed to help sailors and officials learn about Match Racing.#RockUpAndRace

British Keelboat Academy

The BKA is a training and networking programme designed to help young (18-25) dinghy racers transition in to yacht and keelboat racing. Applications open in August with training over winter leading to opportunities to join existing campaigns.

British Keelboat League

The British Keelboat League is an inter-club competition hosted at various locations around the UK in provided keelboats so that any racer can get involved. Racing is short and sharp (12 mins per race), with umpires on the water to ensure it is fair. No boat needed, just find some friends from your club and #RockUpAndRace

Sunsail Racing Series

Enjoy the best one design yacht racing the Solent has to offer, on board our identical fleet of Sunsail Match First 40s. From March to November, Sunsail Events are offering seven competitive weekends of thrilling round the cans racing, longer coastal race and offshore course Each chapter testing you and your crews skills on the racecourse. Join this highly competitive fleet of Matched First 40s for one or more chapters. Podium winners from each chapter will automatically qualify for the Gill Sunsail Racing Series Final to take place in November. USC teams entering the BUCS Yachting Championships frequently use these events as part of their training.

RYA National Team Racing Championship

Each year 24 teams battle it out in March for the Prince Philip Trophy at various venues around the country. Supported by most of the elite teams and fully umpired, this event is excellent preparation for the BUCS Team Racing Championship Finals and draws a big student entry as a result.

RYA & BUSA Women's Team Racing Nationals

A female-only event comprising of an open competition combined with separate prizes for the top 3 university teams and the Under 19 trophy, awarded to the best placed Youth team.

Women's Open Keelboat Championship (WOKC)

WOKC is a popular and fun weekend regatta supporting female sailors. The racing is serious and competitive, the frocks and flip-flops party is unmissable and the atmosphere both on and off the water is fun and friendly. All teams must compete with a fully female crew.
The Dubarry Women’s Open Keelboat Championship welcomes teams from sports boats through to production racer/cruisers. One design classes such as J80s will be considered subject to suitable class numbers. We hope you will join us and support women in sailing.

RYA Race Coaches

RYA Race Officials - Opportunities and Appointments

As a race official, find opportunities to work in the UK, at clubs other than your own, as well as in Europe through the Eurosaf scheme, includes EUROSAF Race Officials exchange programme.

The Wilson Trophy

Widely regarded as the premier team racing event in the world, the Wilson Trophy is held each May at West Kirby SC where the marine lake provides a ready-made grandstand for spectators. Renowned for fierce racing alongside even fiercer socials including the infamous Wilson dinner, the event attracts top quality teams from around the globe and celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2019.

Firefly Nationals

The Firefly National Championships are held during August each year at various locations. With a large student entry, some of the most renowned socials in the sailing calendar and highly competitive sailing at great venues, this is not one to miss!

WLYC 24 Hour Race

Sailed on the Marine Lake at Southport (West Lancs YC), the 24 Hour Race is the UK’s number 1 dinghy endurance race. It’s a great opportunity to compete for various prizes (including a university trophy), whilst also offering one of the best social events in the dinghy racing calendar.
