“The UK's No.1 dinghy endurance race.
“The 24 Hour Race is the premiere opportunity for Sailing Club teams to compete for serious trophies (and status), whilst also enjoying the unique hospitality provided by one of the best social events in the dinghy racing calendar so make sure you join us for the Friday night!
“The race is sailed on the relatively safe waters of the Marine Lake at Southport, and racing is continuous for 24 Hours even in extreme weather conditions. Entries are accepted from Sailing Clubs, Class Associations and Universities throughout the UK, with past visits from Eire, France and even the USA. Crew, equipment and sail changes are permitted during the race (but only in a specially designated docking area).
“The 24 Hour Race, now in its 50th year, is sailed in classic dinghies (Enterprise, GP14, Lark and Firefly); and has opportunities for Masters, Ladies and University teams to compete for special prizes, whilst also being on equal terms with all other teams.”
Plymouth University S.&P.C 'A' led the field of eight university teams at the 2017 edition, also including
Birmingham, Nottingham, Bath, Manchester, Lancaster & Sheffield Hallam.
The Midlands Mixer will be hosted at Burton Sailing Club by Loughborough University Sailing Club in collaboration with the BUSA Midlands Area on the 20th/21st October 2018.
This year, for the first time, the Midlands will be holding its very own coached event to kick the year off.
The Saturday will be a day of top quality race training by two coaches to be announced nearer the time (clue: both BUSA Finalists), followed by a one dayer team racing event on the Sunday.
The event is aimed specifically towards freshers coming from a fleet racing background learning the ropes of team racing.
The price per team for the full weekend will be £250. Sunday’s one dayer can be purchased for £150 providing a rare opportunity to benefit from both coaching and umpiring in a relaxed atmosphere before the season begins in earnest.
Accommodation will be provided for both Friday and Saturday.
A social will, of course, take place on both days also. More details of food and social tickets to follow.
Saturday coached session team limit: 8 teams.
Sunday coached one dayer team limit: 12 teams.
Spaces for both days will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Racing will take place on the 27th and 28th of October.
"We look forward to welcoming you to this well organised, well attended and well established open team racing event; with 4 flights of boats, 24 spaces, an excellent and experienced race management team and the famous Grouse ceilidh (which returns to it's rightful place on Saturday night this year), we're going to make this the best Grouse ever!
"Entry fees will be £240 until the 1st of October, increasing to £300 thereafter. This covers hosting on the Friday and Saturday nights, a meal at lunchtime each day of the event, entry to the Friday and Saturday socials, and the Grouse t-shirt!"
"The University of Sheffield Sailing Club would like to welcome you back for another huge weekend that is the FIRST and BIGGEST northern event of the year
"The Sheffield Shuffle will be back again on the 27th/28th of October, with 2 days of high quality team racing interspersed by 2 of the best socials you could sail for, including the infamous Poptarts!"
"Last year’s Sheffield Shuffle saw 113 races in two days, an overboard chunder from a sailor at the windward mark and another banished to bed in a bathtub after one too many lager beers.
All signs of top-quality team racing and top-quality nights out.
Many claimed this was “the best and most organised Shuffle ever” (cheers umpire David), and this year's promises to be bigger and better.
So, don’t hang about – get your early bird entries in now"

NB Although this weekend has been the Race Officials' Conference in previous years, for 2019 it will be an RYA Racing Conference for Club and other Race Event Organisers. So this weekend need not be avoided by University-hosted TR events who will be needing umpires. It is understood that the Race Officials will have a conference in 2020 (following publication of new World Sailing Racing Rules}.
