The Calendar includes all BUCS-BUSA sailing events, relevant RYA and other events (including international) and programmes in which student sailors and teams regularly compete or participate (e.g. Keelboat Squad). The Calendar carries all university events hosted by BUSA Member Clubs (USCs) that are notified to us (inclusion is discretionary, but no other events are listed on the first or second weekend of November, which is reserved for the BUCS-BUSA Fleet Championships, see Calendar). Events for inclusion should be notified to the BUSA Secretary or by using the Contact Form.

West Lancashire Yacht Club are reviving the 24 Hour Race. Will your team be there to help write the new history of this iconic event?
The WLYC 24 Hour Race is the premier opportunity for UK Sailing Club teams to compete for serious trophies and status, whilst also enjoying the unique hospitality provided by one of the best social events in the dinghy racing calendar so make sure you join us for the Friday night!
The race is sailed on the relatively safe waters of the Marine Lake in Southport, and racing is continuous for 24 hours even in extreme weather conditions. Entries are accepted from Sailing Clubs, Class Associations and Universities throughout the UK, with past visits from Eire, France and even the USA. Crew, equipment and sail changes are permitted during the race in a designated docking area.
This year’s event on 21-22 September 2024 already has 40 teams entered including Glasgow University SC and a team of Lancaster and Sheffield Hallam alumni for whom the 24 Hour Race has always been a must. The event originated with university sailing clubs and we want to maintain that heritage, so we are making the early bird discount rate available to bona fide university sailing clubs until August or until our maximum capacity (75 teams) has been reached. It’s open to GP14s and Enterprises this year and we may include Fireflies next year. Entry for Enterprises and GPs is via the GP14 Association online shop.
