The Calendar includes all BUCS-BUSA sailing events, relevant RYA and other events (including international) and programmes in which student sailors and teams regularly compete or participate (e.g. Keelboat Squad). The Calendar carries all university events hosted by BUSA Member Clubs (USCs) that are notified to us (inclusion is discretionary, but no other events are listed on the first or second weekend of November, which is reserved for the BUCS-BUSA Fleet Championships, see Calendar). Events for inclusion should be notified to the BUSA Secretary or by using the Contact Form.
Summer will have team racing in action at Rutland SC, host of the 2015 Team Racing World Championships, with the postponed RYA/BUSA Women’s Team Racing Championship scheduled for 12-13 June, when competitors will be battling it out to see if anyone can take the title from Oxford University, who were crowned double champions in 2019.
After what can only be described as 'a year' the University of Sheffield Sailing Club would like to welcome you for a weekend of Team Racing and Socials!
We are very excited to be running the event from the 16th-18th July. This should be well after restrictions are lifted so we are very optimistic about the chances of being able to run the event!
The event is very much dependent on the social distancing and government guidelines at the time due to Covid-19. We will be sure to update the event page with exactly how we plan to run this event, and will make every effort to ensure that any plans made going forwards will be refundable.
*EARLY BIRD ENTRY DISCOUNTED AT £250 PER TEAM before the 15TH JUNE (what a steal).
**AFTER 15th JUNE £290 PER TEAM
***THIS WILL BE REFUNDABLE UNTIL 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE EVENT
Social ticket price including food TBC
For now we are asking teams to hold off on any payment until we have a better idea of the structure of the event and how it will run. Invoices will be sent at a later date. Socials may be club socials as normal but we are also exploring options taking advantage of the summer weather e.g. BBQs!
NoR and SIs to follow.
If you are interested in the event and a touch hesitant or simply want to know more, get in touch with Peter Owen.
We have a fantastic opportunity up for grabs, the RYA's fleet of 6 RS21s are coming to Scotland in July and August. We are organising a week of coaching for university teams in association with the RYA and RNCYC from the 19-23 of July. The event will take place at RNCYC in Helensburgh where the boats are based for the duration of their stay in Scotland.
A full programme of championship races, mostly an hours length is scheduled. On Big Wednesday we hold the Sir Ralph Gore race our endurance race for a large trophy! The whole series, excluding a discard, adds to the full scorecard. The event attracts many aspiring university students and a good number of teenagers as the Firefly has huge appeal to all age groups and isn’t an expensive dinghy to buy or maintain. There are many prizes too, ones for students, under 18’s, under 21’s, the over 50’s and crew’s prizes etc.
Considerable discounts for students are available as well as help with finding and transporting boats for the event.
Sheffield University Sailing Club would like to invite teams to a full weekend of team racing, at Pennine Sailing Club on Saturday 30th October to Sunday 31st October 2021, with both a Friday and Saturday night social – location on Friday to be confirmed but 100% Pop-Tarts on the Saturday! Accommodation will be in shared accommodation in Sheffield.
Full details, notice of race, and sailing instructions and entry to follow. We hope that the woes and bores of Covid-19 will be in the past and this event should go ahead as normal, to be one of the most memorable and fun weekends in the North/Midlands area!
