The BUCS Yachting Championships are organised on behalf of BUCS by BUSA, in conjunction with the RYA.

The 2022 edition will be held from 11-14 April 2022 on the Solent at Port Hamble and Cowes Yacht Haven), using Fairview 37s.
Teams, representing UK universities, will consist of 8 crew (inc 2 females and 2 males). The event incorporates 8 windward/leeward races and 2 coastal races(non-discardable).

With effect from Sunday, 10 April, the Official News Board will be where all Competitors and Officials need to be watching - for Notices posted during the week, links to on-line Results, Protest Time Limits and Protests & Hearings Schedules etc. [There will not be a physical ONB at Hamble or Cowes]

Wind speed at Bramblemet isn’t showing significant reduction yet, and now changing to wind against tide.

AP over 4 is now replaced by AP over 5. Earliest warning signal is now 1615.

Next review is at 1430, when we may move to an indefinite AP with a final decision at 1530 for a 1700 warning signal or abandon for the day.

ENTRY COSTS
In order to compete, teams must pay both an entry fee to BUCS/BUSA for the administration and hosting of the event, as well as an entry charter fee and deposit to Fairview for the boat they will need to charter.

Entry Charter fee per mixed team: £1,909 (Payable to Fairview)
Entry Charter damage deposit per mixed team: £3,000 (Payable to Fairview)

ENTRY ALLOWANCE

This event is limited to a capacity of 15 boats across all institutions on a first come first serve basis. Skippers/Crew must have the required experience to charter a boat by being approved by Fairview.

STAGED ENTRY

This competition operates a staged entry process. Entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date of Thursday 17th March 2022 will be accepted where the competition allows. Only if after the closing of Stage 1 the competition allows, will Stage 2 open with a closing date of Thursday 31st March 2022.

Stage 2 entries will only be accepted if the competition allows and priority will remain with the entries received before the Stage 1 entry closing date. If Stage 2 opens and any entries received are accepted into the competition, will be charged an additional 20% fee (Reg 3.2.4).

ENTRY PROCESS

Step 1 - Read all Information including Notice of Race

Step 2 - Complete the google form (link here) to get approval from Fairview. Entries are decided on a first come first serve basis from the time of filling out the skipper approval form.

Step 3- Once skipper approval granted fill out the BUCS yacht Entry form and return to Fairview at info@fairviewsailing.co.uk along with the deposit within 2 weeks of approval.

Step 4 – Once you are approved by Fairview, the skipper can apply to BUCS play Yachting, all remaining crew members MUST be on the competitors and reserves list. Deadline is the 18th of March

Step 5 - Pay full charter fee and damage deposit paid by 14th of February

Furthermore, after entries have closed no refunds will be given for withdrawals. This applies regardless of the reason for a withdrawal.

REGISTERING COMPETITORS AND RESERVES ON BUCScore

This year the BUCS Play entry arrangements have changed.

All sailors (competitors, potential competitors and reserves) need to be registered on the Competitors and Reserves list on BUCS Play to compete in any sailing event this year. Competitors for the Yachting will need to be entered onto this by Friday 23rd March 2022 at the latest in order to be eligible for selection for the BUCS Yachting Championships.

AFFILIATION AND INSURANCE INFORMATION
All institutions participating in BUSA/BUCS events are required to be members of BUSA. The Annual subscription, as described on the BUSA website is required in order to participate. This fee includes your club’s RYA Affiliation. SUBSCRIPTIONS WERE DUE BY 1 NOVEMBER 2021. If you have not received your invoice by October, please request it via email to secretary@busa.co.uk If your university requires a purchase order number to be included on your invoice, please email secretary@busa.co.uk ASAP.

It is the responsibility of either the individual or institution to ensure that all entrants have appropriate insurance in order to compete. BUSA and BUCS DO NOT insure any competitor for any of their events.

DATA COLLECTION
As part of the entry process we collect competitor mobile phone numbers and email addresses to use in case of last minute event changes / cancellations and to pass out key information as required.

Please note: these details will only be used for critical event information and will only be passed to third party organisers who have adhered to BUCS Agreement for Disclosure of Personal Information.

We also collect next of kin phone numbers and details in case of an emergency during the event.
