BUCS YACHTING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020

NOTICE TO COMPETITORS - CANCELLATION OF CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2020 Yachting Championships will be held from 5th - 9th April 2020 at Port Solent and Gunwharf Quays (Portsmouth), using Sunsail F40 and Jeanneau 410 yachts

Teams representing UK universities, will consist of 8 crew (inc 2 females). The event incorporates a Qualifying Series, followed by two-days of Championship and Trophy Races.

Portsmouth University have organised social events information will be posted very soon with all you need for our black tie and club night tickets – keep an eye out!

FORMAT CHANGE RUN DOWN:

  • Qualification will be run in 2 fleets, 10 of each boat (F40 and Jeanneau 410) on days 1 and 2. Format of up to 3 windward/leeward races and 1 short coastal race per day.
  • Top 10 boats will qualify to Championship, sailed in F40s. Remaining 10 boats will race in the trophy fleet in Jeanneau 410s
  • Final 2 days of racing will include 4 more windward/leeward race and a long inshore/coastal race.
  • Boats are still available for accommodation for the whole event
  • Teams will swap boats at Gunwharf Quays on Evening 1 (Monday). There will be up to two swaps during the regatta depending on qualification result after day 2.

KEY ENTRY POINTS:

  • Each team planning on entering this event must send a Sunsail Booking form and Skipper CV directly to Sunsail for approval before 3rd March 2020
  • After Sunsail approval, BUCSPlay entry opening is on 28th January 2020 with an entry deadline of 23.59 on 10th March 2020, for BUCSPlay Stage 1 online entry.
  • Entry is limited to 20 boats. Places are allocated per uni, first come first serve – so be quick on entry!!
  • Entry fee (stage 1) per mixed team: £265
  • Entry Charter fee per mixed team: £1,835
  • Entry Charter deposit per mixed team: £3,000

ARE YOU AN ELIGIBLE SKIPPER?

  • Skipper CV must be completed along with booking form
  • At least 2 team members must hold an RYA Day skipper Practical OR show equivalent Keelboat Racing Experience
  • The skipper should aim to have at least 500nm of racing experience, however skippers without this can still submit a CV to Sunsail who will make a case by case decision.
  • TOP TIP: Sunsail are much more likely to approve you as a skipper if you have attended a Sunsail training session this year: £1048 per yacht

- 21st & 22nd March (Sunsail Racings Series Round 2)

- 4th & 5th April (Round 3 for the Sunsail University Cup)
