University of Glasgow Sailing Club

Glasgow University Sailing Club was founded in 1912. We are a very active society, and there are many diverse ways to get involved, from fleet racing and team racing in dinghies (Fireflies), to fleet racing, match racing and two social cruises on yachts each year, as well a multitude of socials for both sailors and enthusiastic social members. Beginners are welcome to try sailing in dinghies or yachts, and to get involved in our socials!

Team racing in dinghies is currently the most active part of the club. We have four teams which compete in the Scottish Student Sailing (SSS) and British University Sailing Association (BUSA) team racing league events during term time, culminating in the BUSA Team Racing Championship Finals. One of our Glasgow teams won the SSS Leagues in 2016, and two teams qualified and competed successfully at BUSA Finals. We teach beginners on a weekly basis and consistently complete the RYA Level 1 and 2 course in a year. We have a yachting team who train a couple of times a semester at Port Edgar, and compete in the SSS Yachting Championship, the Crouton Cup, and the Ceilidh Cup.

Glasgow University Sailing Club also hosts the Glasgow Grouse: a competitive annual team racing league event in October, which usually involves about 20 teams, including both university and open teams, culminating in an intense weekend on the water as well as a legendary ceilidh on the Saturday night!
