Queen’s University Belfast Sailing Club (QUBSC) has been sailing since the 1950s, making us one of the longest-established sports clubs at Queen’s. Over the years, we’ve grown into a vibrant, competitive, and welcoming club whose members race and sail all over the UK and Ireland. We sail out of Strangford Lough Sailing Club, one of the best sailing venues in the country, and have a fleet of six Fireflies. Our sailors compete across team racing, fleet racing, match racing (in keelboats), and yacht racing, with a packed calendar of 12+ events each year.

We are actively involved in both the Irish University Sailing Association (IUSA) and the British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA), travelling regularly to compete at a high level throughout the season. Training runs twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with additional sessions available for advanced sailors. We cater for all abilities — whether you’ve never sailed before, are looking to improve, or want to race seriously at varsity level. We run structured coaching for beginners and intermediates, alongside a dedicated advanced squad for competitive racers. On top of that we maintain strong connections with our Alumni cumulating our sailing season with our Alumni event open to all university sailing teams!

Membership is open to any Queen’s University Belfast student, as well as students from Ulster University, and you don’t need any prior experience to get involved. While we take our racing seriously, QUBSC is just as well known for its social side. We’re proud to run some of the best socials on campus, and every summer we top it off with our legendary Armada yacht holiday, sailing in places like Greece and Croatia.

All sailing opportunities, training updates, and events are shared through our WhatsApp community, and you can find out more about the club on our website and social media pages.

Whether you’re here to race hard, learn something new, or just get out on the water and meet great people — QUB Sailing Club has a place for you.
