Britain must this year defend the British-American Cup against the Americans. We currently hold the Cup, and do not want to lose it. The match will take place in Cowes in September (15th ?19th) We need the best team racers to form a team to race in Cowes and make sure the cup stays on British soil.

The British-American Cup is one of the oldest team racing competitions in the sport. It began in 1920, in Six Metres, and has continued ? in various forms ? since then. It is held every two to three years. On this side of the Atlantic the current organisers are the Royal Thames Yacht Club, the Royal Yacht Squadron and the RYA and on the other side the Seawanhaka Yacht Club of Oyster Bay on Long Island Sound. Britain currently holds the British-American Cup, the British team led by Nigel Wakefield having beaten the Americans over three days of racing in September 2001.
HOW TO APPLY
The 2003 event will be held in the Solent, Cowes in, September 15th ? 19th, in Sonars. Each side will sail a team of four boats, three persons per boat. Any British national may apply for a place in the team.
Team selection will be carried out initially by a process of seeding based on established form. If necessary there will be selection trials in Cowes in Sonars ? the date of which will be confirmed once applications have been received.
To apply for a place on the team, please complete the form attached and return it to Dave Atkinson at the RYA along with your current CV and all relevant contact details. Please make sure you enter in Sonar crew units of a maximum of 240 kilos.
Every application will be acknowledged. The deadline for applications is the 23rd May 2003.
