Bids sought to host the 2021 Fleet Racing Championships

Would your University Sailing Club or UK-based Host Club be interested in hosting the BUCS/BUSA Fleet Racing Championships?

BUSA is now inviting bids from UK Sailing or University Clubs to host the 2021 Fleet Racing Championships. It is important to note this does not affect the upcoming 2020 event, to be held at Datchet Water hosted by Brunel University Sailing Club. We are aware that many clubs are finalising their annual calendars well over a year ahead and are also facing the added pressures of rescheduling events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, bids are being sought by 23:59 on the 14^th August 2020.

The BUCS Fleet Racing Championships are the annual university fleet racing competition held between the members clubs of BUSA. The event currently combines an individual and team competition, with approximately 230 sailors and 130+ boats competing each year. In recent years we have renewed our focus on accessibility to the competition and are looking to increase the number of sailors with disabilities competing each year. The event is sailed in four fleets including Fireflies, Lasers, Slow & Fast Handicap fleets. We anticipate a number of Hansa sailors would compete in the Slow Handicap fleet. The Championship takes place over two days on the first or second weekend of November (6^th-7^th or 13^th-14^th November 2021).

The BUSA Fleet Racing Officer, whilst welcoming bids from previous venues, is also open to new proposals from clubs across the UK. The racing area needs to be sufficiently large to support two courses for the diverse range of dinghies identified above. Other factors that BUSA will take into account are accessibility by both USC-owned and privately-owned boats, availability of boats to charter for clubs travelling a large distance to compete, as well as on and off water facilities and equipment.
