Event info:
This event usually attracts nearly 300 sailors each year, and is the first National championships of the season. Valuable BUCS points are up for grabs.
At the event each person competes individually to his or her best ability. The emphasis is on individual performance with the best results from each university contributing to a team prize. There are several classes of boats competing and the event is always a good introduction to the years sailing programme with some highly competitive sailing!
Any individual or pair can enter this event provided they bring their own/university boat. (sailors can also hire boats from Sail Laser at WPNSA.
Champions of 2007-08:
Team ? Southampton University
Laser ? Nick Thompson (Exeter University)
Firefly ? Tom Mallindine/Pete Matthews (Exeter University)
Laser 2 ? Piers Arnold/Emanuel (Brunel University)
Handicap ? Ian Dobson/Katie Restall (Southampton University)
Teams are reminded that they MUST ensure that their subs have been paid by the 1 November 2008, otherwise they will not be allowed to sail in any BUSA Sailing Event.
This year the BUSA Committee have decided to allow sailors who’s universities do not have sailing clubs to allow them to sail in the BUSA Fleet Racing Championships* without being members of the British Universities Sailing Association (to a maximum of 4 sailors from any single university). Sailors will however need to be members of the RYA or affiliated to a club (proof is required). *This is only for this event and not other Championships or BUSA Teams.
The committee have agreed this in order to allow university sailors to keep sailing whilst at university where ever they go.
If you have any queries about this, please contact either Ben Towell or Jess Mapplebeck.
