We are thrilled to announce that we have recently formed a partnership with leading sailing clothing manufacturer, Rooster Sailing, to further support our mission to improve access to sailing for university students across the UK.
As the committee works to further commercialise BUSA to ensure the sustainability of the organisation in the long term and improve our capacity to support university sailors in diverse ways, we began a search for a clothing partner in late 2019. Following a number of competitive bids, we are delighted to confirm Rooster Sailing as our clothing partner going forward.
Rooster, founded by Steve Cockerill in November 1999, emerged from sailing clubs and boat parks across the world; combining his passion for developing sailing kit that performs with his enthusiasm for sharing the knowledge amassed from two Olympic Campaigns.
Their very origin is innovation and challenging the system, not just a brand; but products delivered for sailors, by sailors to inspire, educate and facilitate access to the freedom of being on the water. This ethos aligns well with BUSA’s goal to increase and facilitate student participation in sailing.
Some of Rooster’s most successful products, such as their Hiking shorts and Aquafleeces, are now staples for many dinghy sailors in the UK and around the world. Following the launch of their keelboat range in the last few years, they are now able to offer kit that supports participation across all four of BUSA’s main disciplines.
No stranger to student sailing, Rooster currently operate a successful University partnership scheme. Among the universities they support is the University of Plymouth Sailing & Powerboat Club:
“Being part of the Rooster university scheme has helped our club hugely, giving an easier way for students new to our sport access to their own kit and helping them to get involved out on the water.”
For further details about the Rooster university scheme and how you can apply to be a part of it in 2020-21, you can get in touch with [email protected].
As we start a new season and move towards the 2021 BUCS Finals, competitors at the BUCS Team Racing Championship can look forward to being the first to race in a brand new set of BUSA bibs. Rooster will also be supporting BUSA to offer competitor prizes at a number of our championship events in the future, as well as helping our student committee members to stand out with new committee jackets for the 2020-21 season.
Rooster kit is worn by sailors across all levels of the sport, from beginners right up to elite competitors. We look forward to continuing to work with Rooster over the coming months and reflecting this ethos, supporting our long-term goal to get more students of all abilities onto the water and enjoying sailing during their time at university.
