After a week’s postponement due to high winds, the Midlands Qualifiers hosted by The University of Sheffield Sailing Club at Pennine Sailing Club went ahead in slightly more moderate wind conditions. Course laying difficulties including an adrift committee boat resulted in a delayed start before racing went ahead in true Pennine style with sleet and a base wind of 20kts gusting 28 kts. Competitors soon adapted well to the breeze-on conditions with a few capsizes, once racing started we got 22 races in before the wind picked up further, some very wet and tired sailors travelled back for the evening. Sunday brought slightly lower initial wind speeds and racing continued quickly charging through to 37 races completed before once again the wind picked up and racing came to a halt. The event would not have been so successful without the amazing efforts (despite the weather) from the volunteer team, the umpire team and PRO.
