The second day of the RYA National Match Racing Championships at the Weymouth Portland National Sailing Academy was sailed in brisk southerly winds and at times driving rain which demanded precise boat handling skills from all the competitors.

Day two was filled with exciting moments and intense racing.  Gemma Farrell, helming the all women’s boat lost her mast through a rigging failure whilst leading her race against Alex Cherry.  Her misfortune was met with sympathy from both the competitors and the jury, but she received no redress and lost the race.

Lucy Macgregor won races against top seeded sailors Ali Hall and Andy Cornah.  Both Hall and Cornah will qualify for Sunday’s final rounds.

Mark Campbell-James continues to dominate the event winning all his matches scoring nine wins in total.

The two remaining first round robin flights will be sailed first on Sunday morning and will determine the all important Quarter Final seedings. With only one team dominant the rest of the teams will fight for the remaining slots in the Quarter Finals.  Sunday will finish with the much anticipated Final Series where the top competitors will finally come head to head.

Racing concludes on Sunday 9 October 2005.
