Michalis Pateniotis of www.icarussailingmedia.com sends his final report:
“French victory at the SYWoC 201
“The French team is the new defender of the Student Yachting World Cup. After winning the first race of the day it was pretty much clear that they were far ahead from the rest of the fleet. They sailed the other two races conservatively and at the end they cheered for their win.
“The two places left at the podium were taken by last year’s defenders from England and the Irish that had a close battle today, with the Irish team coming really close in points with the British. Eventually the British team showed her experience and by winning the last race secured the second place, leaving the Irish in third.
“The wind today was lighter and was blowing from the north in addition to the previous days that was from the opposite direction. The first start was given at 10:00 and the majority of the fleet chose the right side of the course area. That seemed to be the favorable decision, but the French team performed their magic again and after securing the boats on the right side crossed the course area and reached the left lay-line securing the rest of the fleet as well. They won the race easily and secured the gold medal.
“After the races a big party followed at the closing ceremony where the students had the chance to cheer for the winners and have a good time just like university students know to.
“Hope to see you again for the 32nd edition of the SYWoC next year!!!”
