Welcome to the first installment of the epic mini series: FISU Student Match Racing Worlds 2006 (FSMRW´06) in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Things got off to a terrible start yesterday with Tom Heywood (main sheet and prize idiot) forgetting his passport and missing the flight eventually turning up in Palma 6 hours after the rest of the team. This morning Jonathon Pinner (Helm and pasty pie man) declared the breeze was “good” but only as he was sat underneath the air con unit, everywhere else it was flat calm. Having sorted registration and convinced Chris Carden (Trim and chief 1) that we were not in the Canaries and Matthew Pinner (Bow and chief 2) that we were not in the Indian Ocean, we finally got on the water for some afternoon practice in the sea breeze, tuning alongside the French team we seemed to have decent pace. Only one word truly describes the Beneteau 25s we are sailing – Filth!

Once Dave Atkinson (team manager and “responsible adult”) had finished sunbathing, packed our lunch and made our beds the team headed over to the opening ceremony of FSMRW´06 (a perfect oppurtunity to show off the tasteful team ties) at the castle on a hill overlooking the idilic bay containing the race area .

More updates and pictures of the team lounging by the pool and tearing it up on the dance floor to follow.

p.s its really hot and sunny!
